Evacuation analysis
An evacuation analysis can be used in assessments related to deviations from pre-accepted performance in the construction project (see «Fire safety design»), or as an assessment of desired changes in the operational phase. At PiD Solutions, we use the evacuation simulation program Pathfinder for these purposes.
By usin evacuation analysis as a tool in the operational phase, special risks from changed use of premises, events, etc. can be assessed. A model that shows the “normal situation” i.e., the building or premises as they have been, are used as a reference for a desired new solution to be compared with.
A new solution can, for example, involve a desire for a higher number of people and other changes that affect escape conditions in the building. The model makes it easy to identify challenges such as bottlenecks and congestion. In addition, the placement of furnishings and escape exits can be adjusted so that the new solution arrives at an evacuation safety level that coincides with that of the normal situation.
