PiD Solutions AS participated as a professional contributor when the new industry association NORALARM-BTF gathered the industry for an annual meeting and professional days in Lillestrøm on March 19–20. The event marked the start of closer cooperation across professional environments within technical fire protection, with the goal of increased expertise and better interaction in the industry.
The new association was established through a merger of Noralarm and Brannteknisk forening, and now represents over 100 member companies from the entire value chain. The ambition is to be a clear voice in the development of regulations, standards and framework conditions, while the association will be an arena for expertise sharing and networking.
As part of the professional program, PiD Solutions AS principal engineer Anders Arnhus gave the lecture “RIBr - the difference between functional requirements and design”. The topic was well-received in an industry where requirements, solutions and responsibilities can often be interpreted differently.
The lecture addressed how fire alarm systems and technical solutions have taken on an increasingly central role in modern fire safety. Today, such systems control a number of critical functions, such as warning, door control and ventilation, and are part of complex contexts where several measures must work together to provide the desired safety.
At the same time, challenges related to reliability and vulnerability were pointed out. Experience shows, among other things, a high number of unwanted alarms, and the presentation highlighted how errors, lack of follow-up and complex connections can weaken the effect of otherwise good solutions.
An important point was that fire safety is not just about meeting requirements on paper, but about ensuring that the solutions actually work over time. This requires a clearer understanding of the connection between requirements and design, as well as a focus on control, maintenance and realistic assessments of how the systems behave in practice.
